On Dec. 9 we will once again cast our ballot for local public position that will affect our quality of services in our communities.
Last year, I was nominated and accepted a candidacy for water commissioner in the Garden City Park Water District election. I campaigned to control spending and to clean up the water. The literature that I circulated was well documented truth, yet a commissioner for the water district felt compelled to tell you that I was lying and was creating a panic about our water supply. That was one year ago and look what has happened in the past few months with our drinking water being contaminated!
Coliform bacteria was discovered by the Nassau County Health Department at six locations throughout the Garden City Park Water District including the water district office building on Marcus Avenue. The Nassau County Health Department recommended emergency chlorination and, if it wasn't for the Nassau County Health Department and complaints made to them, one being from John Cataldi, we would not have known anything about the condition of our water.
I urge you to support John Cataldi for the position of water/fire Commissioner on Dec. 9 by asking your friends and neighbors to cast his/her ballot for John Cataldi. Help him so that he can help us to bring back quality water and responsible management to our district. He is certainly qualified to deliver the service that we are entitled to and has a record of achievement and community service to prove it.

I am writing this letter in support of an individual from my neighborhood who is running for Garden City Park water/fire commissioner.
In light of all the problems we have had with the current administration's management of our water supply system and fire department, I am relieved that a licensed professional is finally running for this important position.
John F. Cataldi, Jr., a licensed master plumber, is the only candidate for water commissioner that I would vote for.
Besides his years of dedicated service to the law enforcement community of Nassau County and his tireless service to the youth of New York State, John knows water!
With our recent bout with bacteria in our water, to vote for anyone else would be irresponsible and foolish. Please join me on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and cast a vote for licensed master plumber, John Cataldi.

I recently had the pleasure of attending all five performances of the wonderful Herricks High School production of Oklahoma, since I was fortunate to have one of my children performing in the production.
Everyone involved did a spectacular job. The direction, musical direction and choreography were absolutely fabulous. The sets, lighting and costuming were incredible. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to the efforts of all involved including stage crew, ticket people, prop persons, etc., and apologies to anyone who is not mentioned.
Imagine teens learning the music of and becoming familiar with Rodgers & Hammerstein and actually humming and singing all of the wonderful show music they learned. All of this professional quality entertainment was available at a price of $7 for adults and $5 for students. So, why were there empty seats?
To be honest, there weren't that many empty seats; only the very back on the sides were empty. However, I feel that the dedicated students who put so much time and effort into the production should have been rewarded with standing-room-only crowds. My family has been attending all Herricks middle school and high school productions since my children, now in high school, were in nursery school. I hope we will all be attending long after they have graduated. It's a wonderful way to support the arts, as well as our kids.
I think it is worth mentioning that the three leads in Oklahoma Andrew Bodd, who played Curly, John LaSalle, who played Will and Ralia Malakidis who played Ado Annie, are graduating seniors this year. What a thrill to remember then as eighth grader middle school students who had lead roles in The Mikado.
All theatrical performances are listed on the district calendar and publicized in the local newpaper. Please support our hard-working and talented thespians. They deserve it!
Further, our winter concerts at the high school are of the same professional quality. They are listed on the district calendar. More priceless music - absolutely free.
