Recently, Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello hosted a districtwide Hurricane Preparedness Forum at the Mineola Community Center. Legislator Nicolello was joined by Commissioner James Callahan from the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, Mike Arcari from the Nassau County CERT (Civilian Emergency Response Team), and Jim Brida from the American Red Cross.
Once again, all the students, the families and the friends of the sixth grade students at Manor Oaks School gathered in the gym to celebrate Moving Up Day.
Diane Zirilli Mares, director of Curriculum and Instruction started the ceremony with an inspiring speech. She was “filling in” for superintendent Robert Katulak, who was absent, due to a death in his family.
At the outset of the last Williston Park Village Board meeting the Williston Park Little League was honored for winning the first District Championship since the league was formed in 1951.
To that end the trophy was presented to Williston Park Mayor Ludwig Odierna to display in the trophy case at village hall.
The team also presented a team picture and the game ball was also presented to be placed in the trophy case. The entire team was present to receive praise from everyone at the meeting.
For the U8G NHP Thunder Cats, there is one word that comes to mind on how they played and it was awesome, in the Plainedge Fathers Day Tournament on June 20th. They came in third place but by no means did it count for how they played with only one point from being in second place. All the girls put their best foot forward, playing their hardest and truly enjoyed the game. There was not one girl that did not put an effort in to contribute as a player and if you were watching one of the games you would have been on the edge of your seat gripped with excitement. The team may have started off slow in the first half of that morning game but they got better with each passing moment. By the second game there was no stopping them and in the third game do you think a little rain would dampen their spirits, by no means… it just drove them harder as a team. I can’t say one player outshined another because they all were shining bright that day.
The first game against Syosset was a close game, we were evenly matched, but we lost 1-0.
