LI Junior Soccer League Seeking Players for Spring 2010 Season

Once again fulfilling its inclusive philosophy, the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) is very proud to announce a new joint venture with the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL).

Starting with the 2010 Spring Season, the LIJSL, one of the world’s largest youth soccer leagues with 1,500 travel teams and 98 clubs in Suffolk, Nassau and Queens, will accept Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League girls teams as guest teams. The CJSL is one of the most historic youth organizations as the league’s founding in 1933 pre-dates the United States Soccer Federation. The 53 CJSL clubs play in New York City, Westchester and northern New Jersey.

Also as part of this important announcement, teams in the Boys Under 9, 10 and 11 age groups will play crossover games against teams from the other league this spring. The March games will be played at the Verrazano Soccer Complex in Brooklyn while matches in April and May are to be played at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.

This agreement will elevate the level of competition while offering a diversity of opponents, benefiting all players from both leagues.

“I’m very excited about the cooperation between our leagues and I think that it’s long overdue,” said LIJSL President Addie Mattei-Iaia.

“This initiative will bring soccer in the New York City area and Long Island to the next level and will increase the enrollment possibility in the CJSL. It’s something that has never been done before,” added CJSL President Burt Wilkes.

The Long Island Junior Soccer League was established in 1966 as a non-profit, educational organization and is one of the largest youth soccer leagues in the United States, with 98 member clubs representing approximately 70,000 players on Long Island and in Queens. The LIJSL is operated by volunteers committed to enabling young people to Build Character Through Soccer. The league’s mission is to foster the growth and development of youths under the age of 19, at all levels of competition, emphasizing fun, respect and team-building. As an umbrella organization, the league provides a coaching academy, clinics, tournaments, special competitions, scholarships and special programs for players of all abilities.
