Basketball Teams Compete In State Tourney

Long Island Lutheran’s Girls’ Basketball team captured first place in the State Federation Tournament of Champions Class “A” Finals held this weekend in Albany. Facing Troy, the girls’ team pulled off a 62-45 victory. Securing a first place finish in this year’s tournament was the goal for this team all season long and capped off a great season in their new division. Tournament MVP award honors went to Lauren “Boogie” Brozoski. Additionally, Katie Lavelle and Staci Barrett received All Tournament honors.

LuHi’s Boys Crusaders outscored their opponent in the semifinal round and won against Abraham Lincoln 73-55. In the Class AA Federation Title game, the Crusaders battled back from an early deficit to trail Christ the King 38-35 at halftime. Unfortunately they came up short and the Royals went on to claim the title 73-64. Despite the loss, they placed in USA Today’s “Best of the Rest” category.

Kentan Facey received All Tournament honors and Mical-Ryan Boyd received the Sportsmanship Award.
