Blue Ribbon Prostate Cancer Run New Site And Date: December 9

Run moved to Syosset-Woodbury Community Park

The  2012 Blue Ribbon 5K Run for Prostate Cancer, which had been scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 18, has been postponed until Sunday, Dec. 9, and has been moved to a new location, Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, 7800 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury.

“It is never an easy task to have to postpone  an event, not to mention having to move it to a different location,” observed Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) Chief Administrative Officer Linda Ottaviano. “Fortunately, with the enthusiastic cooperation of Town Supervisor Venditto and the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department, we have been able to reschedule the event and relocate it to the scenic grounds of Syosset-Woodbury Community Park,” added Rhonda Samuel, Executive Director of  Integrated Medical Foundation (IMF), who hosts the event.

If you have already registered for the Run, there is nothing else for you to do but to show up at the Community Park sufficiently in advance of the 9:30 a.m. starting time. If you’re not yet registered, you can sign up at glirc.org.

Additionally, the GLIRC Trail Run that had originally been scheduled for Dec. 9 will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23 instead.

IMF said the run is supported by a grant from Abbott, as well as Shiel Medical Laboratory, lead local partner and Advanced Radiation Centers of NY, local partner. The BRRPC raises funds for prostate cancer awareness, education, and support services throughout the NY metro area.

The race starts at 9:30 a.m. and athletes, cancer survivors, caretakers, family members, physicians, and friends will find this a challenging course for the running enthusiast on the rolling pathways of the golf course. There will be an onsite health fair as well as free prostate cancer screenings.

Awards will be presented in all categories. Race management services are by the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) for their final event in the 2012 GLIRC Grand Prix of road races.  Timing and scoring by Start2Finish Corporation, with the timing chip built into your bib number. Results will be available at glirc.org within 24 hours after the race.  The course has been certified and the race sanctioned by USA Track & Field.
