Matt Sheehan (Holy Trinity High School) and Rory Walsh (Kellenberg High School) grew up on opposite sides of town and have been competing against each other since their elementary school days.
First, the boys squared off in the SMAA Flag Football League and later in Williamsport Baseball – Matt for Central Nassau Little League and Rory for East Meadow League. They squared off in CYO as well with Matt representing St. Brigid’s and Rory, St. Raphael. It seems only fitting that they are still competing and being recognized for their hard work in the Catholic High School Football League.
Of course they had to be on opposite sides of the ball! What they have in common however is the progression from young boys into the gentlemen they have become today. It was their experiences on the field of play that taught them the respect and dedication that will serve them well throughout the rest of their lives.
Rory Walsh and Matthew Sheehan received ALL League Awards presented on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at the CHSFL Awards Breakfast at Kellenberg High School. Despite never playing on the same team the boys have become great friends as a result of their involvement in sports The beauty of it is they are both juniors and get to do it all over again next year. Congratulations Rory and Matthew!
