Hicksville Strikers Boys U16 Ranked Third in Country

The Hicksville Strikers Boys U16 Team were recently named champions of both the 2009 ENY State Cup and the 2009 Region 1 Premier League. They also gained entry to the Region 1 Championships in Barboursville, WV where they played in a tournament-style match-up against state champs from the region and went on to win. The win advanced the Strikers on to the National Championships against the top teams in the country July 22–26 in Lancaster, MA.

Last night I would not have bet a nickel that we would play golf today, but it was a beautiful, sunny day today and we played a Scramble tournament. This was a make-up tournament for one that was rained out in early June.

It turned out to be a very nice day for our tournament. We had 43 men there today. There were a total of 57 pars with Dave Malle, Pete Guerra, John Pellegrino and Jim Greene each getting 5. There were 17 golfers under net par and four more at even par.

For the second year in a row, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) Eastern section will bring its innovative and free “QuickStart” instructional program to tennis courts at eight Nassau County parks, on Wednesday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., as part of Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi’s “Healthy Nassau” initiative. In the event of rain, the program will be held July 24.

Keith Hernandez held a book signing June 27 at Borders of Westbury and hundreds of baseball fans had an opportunity to receive autographed copies of the former first baseman’s new book, Shea Good-Bye: The Untold Inside Story of the Historic 2008 Season.
