It turned out to be a very nice day for our tournament. We had 43 men there today. There were a total of 57 pars with Dave Malle, Pete Guerra, John Pellegrino and Jim Greene each getting 5. There were 17 golfers under net par and four more at even par.

For the second year in a row, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) Eastern section will bring its innovative and free “QuickStart” instructional program to tennis courts at eight Nassau County parks, on Wednesday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., as part of Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi’s “Healthy Nassau” initiative. In the event of rain, the program will be held July 24.
Keith Hernandez held a book signing June 27 at Borders of Westbury and hundreds of baseball fans had an opportunity to receive autographed copies of the former first baseman’s new book, Shea Good-Bye: The Untold Inside Story of the Historic 2008 Season. Hernandez also took some time out before the signing to speak with Anton Community Newspapers about his years in Flushing and the demolition of Shea Stadium.

Registration is now open for the Town of Oyster Bay Outdoor Baseball/Softball Skills Program, according to Town Councilman Joseph G. Pinto.
Local runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes are cordially invited to join in the fun on Sunday, July 12, for the 6th Annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run/Walk. The event will once again be starting and finishing at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School, on Central Park Road and Southern Parkway in Plainview, with the starting horn sounding at 9 a.m.
On the fourth try, we finally got a tournament in although it was under very overcast skies. We had 22 men golf today. There were 4 men under net par and 2 men at even net par. There were 20 pars overall with Dave Malle getting 4 of them. There was also one birdie by Warren Gallagher on the 200 yard, par 4, 4th hole. Our next tournament on July 2, will also be the first round of the match play tournament. Please check the bulletin board to see who you are playing and sign up together. You must play in the same foursome. On July 30 (the 5th Thursday in July – not a usual golf day) we will play an extra tournament to make up for the tournament that was rained out in early June.
Over $31,266 was pledged at the 17th Annual 5K Runday and Walk for Central Nassau. Proceeds from the event will enable Central Nassau to improve the quality of life of individuals and families struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Applications are now available and online registration is now open for the 2009 Arrow Exterminating Company Long Island Women’s 5 Kilometer Run, and women runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are cordially invited to participate.
