Bette Meyer, of Hicksville, died on June 1, 2010. She was a member of St. Ignatius RC Church for 60 years. Wife of the late Frank V. Mother of Richard D. Powers (Mary), Frank M. Meyer (Buz) and Margaret Tannen. Grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Mass at St. Ignatius RC Church. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Ignatius Human Services, 129 Broadway, Hicksville, NY 11801, in her memory would be appreciated.
Sylvia Dickey Strauss, 96, died peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, ME, on May 10, 2010. Born in Hicksville, she grew up in Syosset and was the elder of two children of Arthur and Florence Dickey. A graduate of Hicksville High School, she attended Hofstra University and received a registered nurse degree from Cornell University - New York Hospital School of Nursing in 1934.
Patricia L. Sullivan (nee Smith), born in 1936 in Old Bethpage, died on May 5, 2010 while residing in Hicksville. She was predeceased in 1988 by her husband John W. Sullivan. She is survived by her children, Karen Bagarozza and Tim Sullivan; their spouses, Charlie and Debby; and three grandchildren, Michael and Katie Sullivan and Alisia Davis. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Aidan’s RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Jean was a Hicksville resident since 1956. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church belonging to the Rosary Altar Society for many years. She also belonged to the Mercy League and participated in its many functions. Jean became a golfer after her husband died in 1987. She also bowled with her Mercy League friends.
Jean was blessed to remain in her own home through her illness. She received Holy Communion each week and most of all enjoyed the love she received from grandchildren, Kately, William and Kerrin.

Olga Marcinik, 96, the late member of the Staryk family of Hicksville, died on March 4, 2010 after years of disability.
The family had operated a 10-acre dairy farm near Burns Avenue in Hicksville, and a 25-acre farm near Pidgeon Hill Road., Huntington. The two farms had more than 100 cows, a processing plant, a dairy store and some 40 delivery trucks. Its customers included homes, restaurants, stores, etc.
Anthony “Tony” Previte, a former trustee on the Hicksville Public Library Board, passed away Feb. 21, 2010. Mr. Previte had been battling an illness for several months and recently underwent surgery. He was 85 years old.
In addition to serving on the library board, Mr. Previte was past president of the Hicksville Community Council and a member of the Hicksville Gregory Museum Board. He was also active with the Hicksville’s Galileo Galilei Lodge –Sons of Italy, the Joseph Barry Knights of Columbus, the Charles Wagner American Legion and the William M. Gouse, Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Lucy Burke, 87, of Hicksville, died on Feb. 13, 2010 at Glens Falls Hospital, NY. Born in Brooklyn, Dec. 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Grace (Cardone) Sabatino. Lucy married William Burke of Salem, NY, on June 1, 1946. He passed away June 30, 1985, following their 39th anniversary. Lucy had the privilege of staying at home and raising her children. Most recently, she was a member of the Senior Citizens of Bethpage.
