The Hicksville High School boy’s varsity soccer team won the New York State Championship for Conference AA held upstate at Middletown High School against Webster Schroeder High School on Nov. 20. For the first time since 1979, the boys’ varsity soccer team has earned the Conference AA, Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship, and New York State Championship titles, and the 2011-12 New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award.
In addition, Peter DiLorenzo was named New York State Tournament MVP and Jung Park received the New York State Sportsmanship Award. Coach Jack Fabrizio explained the reasons behind this team’s success.
“This year’s team, led mostly by seniors, was extremely well-balanced and executed positive ball possession, passing and patience. This was coupled with a very strong defensive back four and goal keeper,” Fabrizio said.

The team then advanced to the Long Island Championship against Brentwood High School and shut out their rivals with a 2-0 final score, followed by a 3-0 victory in the New York State Class AA semifinal game against Shenendehowa High School.
