Mangano was sworn in as Nassau County Executive on New Year’s Day to a crowd of supporters and a stage full of dignitaries who called for this very different county leader to embody the start of a new era for Nassau.
The ticket that Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano rode to victory was the same one that Republican candidates used in Nassau County to regain a majority in the legislature this November – lower spending, fees and taxes.

Governor David A. Paterson signed into law last week pension reform legislation in North Hempstead Town Hall that is expected to provide more than $35 billion in long-term savings to New York taxpayers over the next 30 years. It will, he said, save $8.5 billion on Long Island and will provide much needed long-term property tax relief.

Mangano named Republican Assemblyman Rob Walker of Hicksville his Chief Deputy Executive and on Monday, Mangano held a press conference to provide an update on the transition process and announce that he appointed Tim Sullivan as Deputy Nassau County Executive for Finance.
Robert Lang was elected commissioner of the Hicksville Fire District on Dec. 8. Lang, who is currently completing his tenure as chief of department, received 965 votes to defeat incumbent Harry Single, Jr., who received 620 votes.
