The Hicksville High School string orchestra, string ensemble, Madrigal Singers and wind ensemble demonstrated their musical versatility and talent in a series of three spring concerts held in the high school auditorium.
The string orchestra, directed by Amy Noll, opened the second concert with three songs, highlighted by a luscious rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” that featured Brian D’Addario on electric guitar.
The string ensemble, also directed by Noll, played two songs, including Gustav Holst’s “St Paul’s Suite,” which featured Julie Choi and Cynthia Lau on violin, Heather Feltkamp on viola, and Yash Deai on cello.
The Madrigal Singers and string ensemble then combined for Handel’s “Coronation Anthem No. 1” before the Madrigals, under the direction of Michelle Emeric, performed three songs including the traditional spiritual “Elijah Rock.”
The wind ensemble, directed by Chad Wyman, closed out the show with a four-song set that featured a lively rendition of Aram Khachaturian’s “Sword Dance.”
After each musical set, the graduating seniors in each group were acknowledged by their teachers, the teachers were acknowledged for their efforts by the students, and the audience acknowledged them both with rounds of sincere applause.
