Last Call For Inaugural ‘Summer’s Not Done’ AquaRun

It’s not too late to register for the inaugural UJA-Federation of New York “Summer’s Not Done” AquaRun on Sunday, Sept. 16, but time is running out and now is the time to sign up.

UJA-Federation of New York will be getting together with the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) to stage the AquaRun, which will be held at the Town of Oyster Bay’s TOBAY Beach in Massapequa, with the starting horn going off at 8:30 a.m.

Joining together to urge everyone to be part of the UJA-Federation of New York “Summer’s Not Done AquaRun” are Event Coordinator Mindy Davidson, Ilyse Gellar Sternberg and Shalom S. Maidenbaum, principals of Maidenbaum & Sternberg LLP and Maidenbaum Property Tax Reduction Group, LLP. The AquaRun consists of an 800-meter swim in South Oyster Bay, followed by an eclectic three-mile run to and through TOBAY Beach’s bird and game preserve.

All entrants will receive a top quality “technical” shirt. You can also look forward to post-race refreshments, and the chance to be part of the post-race door prize drawing. Individual entry fees are $40 for those who pre-register and $45 for those who wait till the day of the run to register. Two-person teams can enter for a total of $50 if pre-registered and $60 day of race.

Packet and shirt pickup will be at the Runner’s Edge running and multi-sport specialty store at 242 Main Street in Farmingdale on Friday, Sept. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at TOBAY Beach on Sunday, September 16th from 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM. Timing chips will only be available for pickup Sunday morning. Entries may be limited to 600.

Online registration for the AquaRun is now open through glirc.org, and print applications can be obtained online at that site or by calling Linda or Mike at the running club at (516) 349-7646.

Alleged 'Johns' Made Public

Across Nassau County, residents are reacting with mixed emotions to the Nassau County District Attorney’s recent arrests of more than 100 men for soliciting prostitutes, including three from Hicksville, four from Levittown, eight from Wantagh and East Meadow, and one from Bethpage. The DA’s office not only arrested the men, but made public their names and photographs.

But for as shocking as these very public revelations may be, some local residents seem nonplussed by the whole incident.

Hicksville Runners Score In Belmont Run

Award winners Jill Loveland and Anne Broderick led a large contingent of runners from Hicksville who successfully completed the 2nd annual Belmont Stakes Blue Ribbon 5K Run for Prostate Cancer on June 2.

Loveland was the first woman in the 25-29 age group to cross the finish line with a time of 23 minutes, 19 seconds. Broderick scored in 26:15 to earn the first place award in the women’s 45-49 age group.
