At a March 31 meeting, the Oyster Bay Town Board approved reducing the speed limit on Duffy Avenue in Hicksville, from 40 mph to 30 mph, according to Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker.
"Duffy Avenue is a heavily traveled road that has both residential and commercial properties along the approximately 1.1-mile stretch between Charlotte Avenue and Newbridge Road," Walker stated. "On the recommendation of the Town Highway Department, which conducted traffic surveys and also obtained data from the Nassau County Police Department concerning traffic accidents that showed an unusually high accident rate in this area, the town board has approved reducing the speed limit on this stretch of Duffy Avenue from 40 mph to 30 mph."
Duffy Avenue between Charlotte Avenue and Old Country Road is already posted for 30 mph. According to the town, the speed limits signs will be changed next week.
