I wish to express my disappointment with the recent, disgraceful behavior of Hicksville Commissioner Harry Single during the past election. It was brought to my attention that Mr. Single mailed a letter, signed by him, just prior to the election that contained false information about incumbent Charley Hearon.
I find it worrisome that Mr. Single touts his many board positions with various local organizations without publicly disclosing the fact that he also does business with some of these groups. This, in my opinion, amounts to a conflict of interest that I believe would be in violation of the code of ethics of each of the organizations on which Mr. Single serves as a board member.
As a longtime taxpaying resident of Hicksville, I do not intend to let this matter go. I have, therefore, decided to request an investigation of this fire commissioner matter (emails, mailings, etc.) by our county executive, the attorney general's office and my own attorney.
It is a sad day for Hicksville when people who hold positions of influence use those same positions to intimidate, bully and belittle others who have given honest and honorable service to this town.
In addition, Jerry O'Brien (newly elected by a slim margin) being a fire commissioner while his wife holds a paid position as district treasurer is a matter that must also be addressed because it would appear to be unethical.
