You couldn't ask for a better day for golf. I don't know why, but only 36 men showed up to play today. Maybe they knew the scores would not be too good. Out of the 36 men, we only had 23 pars and only four men shot under par for the round and six men shot even par. Maybe the low scores could be blamed on the fact that the greens had recently been aerated (That's my excuse). However, we did have two birdies, one by John Pellegrino on the par 4, 259-yard1st hole and the other by Sevald Knudsen on the par 3, 150-yard 3rd hole. We had the final round of Match Play today. The new Match Play champion is Guy Lefler. He defeated Frank Larke.
We have two tournaments left. After the last tournament on Oct. 16, we will all go to the VFW Hall on Rte. 107 (Broadway) for a luncheon and distribution of prizes.
The next tournament will be Thursday, Oct. 2. Sign in at 7 a.m. - don't be late.
Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 13 or less. Flight B is for players with a handicap of 14 or more. The league is a 100 percent handicap league. Any man who is 55 years of age is eligible.
Because of the rapid growth of our club this year, we regret that we must limit our membership. The time involved to make up the foursomes and the waiting time for all the groups to finish is prohibitive. If you have already called to say that you wish to join the club, we will accept you, but after that we will have to put you on a waiting list. For more information call Lou Neumann at 681-2056.
