The Hicksville Patriots U12 Division 6 Girls Soccer Team entered a pre-season four-game tournament March 9 at St. John's University's Belson Stadium and, after an outstanding winter, had a chance to test their skills against some of Eastern New York's top teams.
In their first game, the Patriots played a split squad of the 96 East Chester Patriots F.C., the Division 1 2007 state cup champs. After a 7-2 lose in which the wind played a big factor, the Hicksville team regrouped and played B.W. Gottschee, another Division 1 team. Despite a hard fought battle, Hicksville lost 3-2 after almost tying the game with a crossbar shot that was not allowed. In their third game, the Patriots played yet another Division 1 team, the 96 Clarksville S.C team, in another battle that ended in a 2-2 tie. In the final game, the Patriots played the other half of the East Chester Patriots F.C. and suffered a 4-0 loss.
Although the Patriots record was 3 losses and 1 tie, the team enjoyed the opportunity to go up against some of New York's most elite teams. The Patriots never gave up and always put forth a team effort. After spending the day in the wind-filled Belson Stadium, the Patriots, along with their Coach Vito Sciascia and their parents celebrated with a pizza party at Regina's Restaurant. The Patriots want to thank trainer Fred Pavey and team mom Irene Carlomusto for all their hard work during the season.
