The Hicksville Fire Department responded to a house fire on Alpine Lane just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. Upon arrival, 1st Assistant Chief Edward Korona found a large volume fire at the front of the house.

First arriving Engine 937 quickly deployed a line and knocked down a large bulk of fire before making a push in the front door. The fire was under control within 20 minutes and the incident was concluded by 1:30 a.m.

Nine pieces of apparatus along with approximately 60 members were on scene under the command of Chief of Department Robert Lang with assistance by Korona, 2nd Assistant Chief Chris Moskos and 3rd Assistant Chief Frank McGeough. The Hicksville Fire Department received mutual aid from the Bethpage, Jericho and Plainview Fire Departments. There were no injuries; the home's occupants, including a husband, wife and son, escaped through the garage unharmed.

According to Korona, there was a considerable amount of damage to the first and second floors. The fire, which is believed to have started on the front porch, is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
