Opinion

The other night, I was driving down Broadway in Hicksville toward Broadway Mall to Christmas shop. I was saddened by the lack of lights and decorations in celebration of our beautiful Christmas season.

You would never know that Christmas was just a week away until you reach the small display in the park. As a longtime Hicksville resident I remember the days when there was a real spirit of this beautiful time of the year everywhere you looked.

Why is it that surrounding towns, Bethpage, Farmingdale and Westbury are beautifully decorated? Can we not afford to decorate or is it a loss of the spirit of the holidays? I hope between now and next year we can revitalize the old Hicksville.
