Second Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hicksville woman for criminal possession of stolen property and possession of a forged Instrument stemming from an investigation that occurred in Hicksville in February 2007.
Detectives alleged that 50-year-old Nina Shah possessed and passed, along to an unsuspecting victim, two fraudulently possessed personal checks totaling $7,000, from a male victim who belongs to her religious house of worship that she ran from her residence. The defendant and her two victims both pray at the defendant's "Jain Center," where it is believed that the two blank personal checks may have been stolen from a fellow worshiper, police said.
The defendant had been out of the country and living in India until her arrest on Dec. 5 when she appeared in Garden City regarding a bankruptcy hearing. This case stems from an ongoing mortgage fraud investigation that is being conducted by the Second Squad, the Nassau County District Attorney's Office and the United States Secret Service.
The defendant was charged with two counts of criminal possession of stolen property - 3rd degree and two counts of possession of a forged instrument - 2nd degree. She was arraigned in First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead on Dec. 6.
Anyone who may have additional information regarding the above named defendant is urged to contact the Second Squad or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
