Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) is pleased to report that the first September 11 blood drive held at his Massapequa Park District Office was a complete success, collecting over 40 pints of blood.
"The blood drive was a great way to encourage people to perform one special deed on September 11th as a way to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day," King stated. "I want to thank everyone who participated in this worthwhile endeavor and I look forward to hosting this event again next year on September 11, 2008."
In his continuing effort to establish September 11 as a national day of voluntary service, charity and good deeds King encourages people everywhere to set aside time every September 11 to perform a special deed of their choice to help others in need.
According to the congressman, the Long Island region suffers from a shortage of local blood donors, as only 2 percent of the region's population donates blood each year, compared to the national average of 5 percent.
The blood drive was administered by Long Island Blood Services.
