Penelope Grand of Hicksville passed away September 11, 2007, just a week after celebrating her 60th birthday. Mrs. Grand suffered from myotonic dystrophy, a form of muscular dystrophy, which weakened her muscles over the years, but never her spirits.

Mrs. Grand was raised in Rockville Centre. She was the daughter of the late John and Florence Lynch and sister of the late Peter Lynch and Patricia Collet. She raised her own family in Hicksville since 1975 and died in the same home in which she began her married life. A housewife, Mrs. Grand devoted all of her time and energy to raising a loving and caring family. She was nothing less than heroic, living life to her fullest ability and will be remembered always for her beautiful mind, heart and spirit.

Mrs. Grand is survived by her husband of 32 years, Richard, and two children, Heather and Jeremy. The family was cared for by the Vernon Wagner Funeral Home in Hicksville. A Mass was held September 14 at Holy Family Church in Hicksville followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.

Charles Freeman Ullrich, 91, died on Sept. 10, 2007 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born on March 18, 1916 in Brooklyn. Loving husband for 60 years of Eleanor Bennett Ullrich who preceded him in death. Father of Kathryn Williams of Lehigh Acres, FL, Robert Ullrich (Diane) of Clarkson, MI, Stephen Ullrich (Gail) of Rockville, MD, and Mary Sobiecki (significant other Douglas Taylor) of Las Vegas, NV. Grandfather of Lauren and Jenna Ullrich (Stephen's children), Matthew, Daniel and Allison Ullrich (Robert's children).

Mr. Ullrich retired from Fairchild-Republic, Farmingdale, after 30 years and was a WWII veteran with five years of military service with the 102nd Q.M. and 183rd Ordnance Depot Co. serving in the Pacific. He was a member of VFW Post #4147, past treasurer of Sable Springs Association, past treasurer of the New York State Club. He also participated in Meals on Wheels in Lehigh. He retired to Lehigh Acres in 1984 from Hicksville with his wife.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, Lehigh Acres, followed by interment at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Ft. Myers. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farley Funeral Home, 1100 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres (369-2181). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hope Hospice of Southwest Florida.
