James Madden

The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce's Small Businessperson of the Year award recognizes a person who is an active member of the chamber, an owner or manager of a business in or near the community and who has made a significant contribution to the local economy and the chamber. This person must also have made a meaningful and important contribution to the general welfare of his/her community. For 2007, the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce has chosen James Madden as the recipient of the Small Businessperson of Year award. Madden is a lifelong resident of Hicksville. He and his brother, Mickey, are third-generation owners of Madden's Auto Body and Glass on Woodbury Road. The business, which was founded by their father, Mark "Squat" Madden in 1947, is known for its expertise in complete automotive body and glasswork. Madden attended St. Ignatius Loyola School, Eastern Military Academy, Holy Trinity High School and is a 1975 graduate of Lynn University. He and his wife Maryellen have been married 31 years and have three children, James, Larissa and Christopher. The Maddens are members of St. Ignatius Loyola Church where he is a member of the school board and golf outing committee. He also is a member of Hicksville's Knights of Columbus, Joseph Barry Council. Currently, Madden is assisting the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce with its John Bull Steam Engine. Madden's Auto Body and Glass will do the painting for this historic restoration project.

Janice Boyd
|
The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year" award acknowledges the ongoing efforts of a non-business or businessperson who is exceptionally dedicated to the improvement and betterment of the community and its people by the generous contribution of time, energy and service they give. For 2007, the honor is being bestowed upon Nassau County Police Officer and Hicksville resident Janice Boyd. Throughout the years, as a member of the police department's 2nd Precinct Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit, Boyd has attended endless Hicksville community meetings, working with the associations to make the neighborhood safe. She makes herself available 24 hours a day. While the 2nd Precinct contains a population of over 100,000 people, Boyd still finds the time to listen to the concerns of residents. According to the chamber, Boyd, who was named a Woman of Distinction by the Town of Oyster Bay earlier this year, takes her job seriously and always "goes above and beyond the call of duty." A perfect example of her devotion to the community occurred back in August during the 2nd Precinct's National Night Out Against Crime event. Boyd, who was on vacation the day of the event, went into work and drove the Nassau County Police Department bus the evening of the event. Her efforts enabled Hicksville's elder community, as well as those who could not walk, the opportunity to take part. Hicksville is proud to call Janice Boyd one of their own.
