The 6th annual golf outing for the Terry Farrell Fund raised necessary dollars to assist local volunteer fire departments and its members. A scholarship fund has been established and is open to a child or children of an active duty, retired, disabled or deceased firefighter who is or has served in the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) or a volunteer fire department. Another mission of this organization is to help with funding of needed equipment for fire departments. Many fire departments have limited funding due to budget constraints and the Terry Fund is contacted for their assistance.
Terrence "Terry" P. Farrell was a victim of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Mr. Farrell was on duty with the NYFD and was in Tower One when it collapsed. Mr. Farrell was committed to his profession by joining the NYFD's elite Rescue 4 in Maspeth. In addition, he was a very active member of the Hicksville Fire Department as their 55th Chief. In 1991, after 16 years with the Hicksville Fire Department, Mr. Farrell and his family moved to their new home in South Huntington where immediately became a member of the Dix Hills Fire Department, where he was served as their 1st Assistant Chief.
On a late summer day in 1994, Mr. Farrell had lunch with a 6-year-old girl on the 87th floor of the World Trade Center in celebration of the life he had given her. Bone marrow donated by Farrell had been used to cure the blood cancer that was killing Chantyl Peterson. She had flown in with her family from Nevada to give him flowers and kisses. She called him "my Mr. Nice Man." Deeds like this were not uncommon for Farrell, a big teddy bear at heart.
Mr. Farrell's five remaining brothers have a mission, in memory of him, to offer assistance to those in need. For more information visit www.terryfarrellfund.org or contact Brian Farrell at 785-9614.
