The Long Island Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (LIJDRF) will be working up a sweat on Sept. 16 at Belmont Lake State Park in Babylon and Sept. 30 at SUNY Old Westbury at their annual walk, whose theme this year is "The Cure - Our Final Frontier." At last year's walk, the LI JDRF raised $1.5 million. Registration on both days begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. at the balloon arch.

"Each year, we set one of the organization's highest fundraising goals, and each year, we surpass it thanks to the tremendous support we receive from Long Island residents and businesses," states Barbara Rogus, executive director of the LI JDRF.

"This year's goal is $2 million. The LI chapter has raised over $6 million in the last six years and we are dedicated to building on our success. We invite you to become one of the thousands who are making a difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes."

The LI JDRF would like to thank their sponsors: Advance Auto Parts, CitiBank, Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., Discover Financial Services, Ford Motor Company, HyVee, Marshall's, Starwood Foundation, Stop & Shop, UBS and Walgreens.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading charitable fundraiser and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes - a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since its inception, JDRF has provided more than $1 billion in direct funding to diabetes research. In a typical year, 85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
