The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce's 5th Annual Street Fair took place Sunday and was a huge success.

In the five years the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce has been hosting its street fair, 2007 was by far the biggest and the best. The weather was a major factor in adding to the enjoyment of those attending. With temperatures in the mid-80s and a pleasant breeze it made for a perfect day in the park. What a treat for families with young children!
All rides, thanks to our generous sponsors, were free to children 12 and under and there were lines at each and every ride throughout the day. The ever-popular Brian Gregorius, a.k.a. the Balloon Man, had children following him everywhere. Well over 125 vendors were selling gifts, wares, clothing, jewelry, arts & crafts, services, foods and drinks. The showmobile "rocked" all afternoon beginning at 11 with the Anton Mure and the Mid Life Crisis Band, Oriana LaRusso, Tom Cavanaugh and the Hicksville Christian Church vocal group. While the children were having fun on free rides the older crowd enjoyed the musical entertainment.
Two caricaturists, Marty Macaluso and Geraldine Hoyle, were kept busy in the Gazebo with their artistry, also free of charge. All 500 free T-shirts were distributed before 3 p.m. to those 12 and under who attended and were accompanied by an adult. With free rides, free T-shirts and free balloons it was a day to be remembered by children and their families.
Optimum raffled two 42" plasma TVs and two lucky winners went home to watch television on big screens tonight. They also handed out scores of T-shirts and tote bags while supplies lasted.
The presence of patrolmen from the 2nd Precinct helped to keep crowd control and ensure security as well. New York State Assemblyman Rob Walker, Nassau County Legislator Edward Mangano, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, Town Clerk Steve Labriola and Town Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker were there with staff talking to their constituents while enjoying the day's festivities.
The folks from New York Fun Factory were fabulous and certainly helped to make the day run smoothly - thanks guys!
Once again heartfelt thanks to our sponsors. Without them there would be no fair.
Finally, thanks to my fellow street fair committee members, including Sam Maruca (MetLife) and Stephanie Sokenis (Mail-Rite), who once again made this all happen - with the help of Jim Pavone (Strategic Aerospace Material), Nick Brigandi (Hicksville Water District), Judy Lombardi (Chamber Executive Secretary). Look for this great event again in July 2008!
