Assemblyman Rob Walker (R, C, I, WF - Hicksville) and Long Island Blood Services will be holding two blood drives in August: The Monday, Aug. 20 blood drive will take place at the Glen Head Community Center, 200 Glen Head Road while the Wednesday, Aug. 29 blood drive will take place at the Hicksville Public Library, 169 Jerusalem Avenue. Both drives will take place from 2 to 7:30 p.m.

"The blood drive we held in April was a huge success and I hope these two drives will be just as successful," said Walker. "The Long Island Blood Services noted that donations are critical during the summer months because of increased emergency demands. I look forward to seeing you at both events because the donation you make today will save lives in the future."

According to Long Island Blood Services:

• Anyone between the ages of 17 to 76, in good health and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate.

• Although 60 percent of Americans are eligible blood donors, only five percent donate nationwide and only two percent donate on Long Island.

• About 4 million people receive blood transfusions every year.

All donors will receive two tickets to a New York Mets game. Appointments are required for both days and can be made by contacting Assemblyman Walker's district office at 937-3571.
