Friends of Terri and Paul Magro gather at Athletic Field for the LI Lizards vs. Washington, D.C. Bayhawks match.

On June 23, hundreds of lacrosse fans gathered at Mitchel Athletic Field in Uniondale to see the LI Lizards professional lacrosse team take on the Washington, D.C. Bayhawks. While it was a tough match, the Lizards preserved, defeating the Bayhawks, 13 to 9.

The Lizards organization generously donated a portion of the afternoon game ticket sales to the Michael Magro Foundation, which was established in 2005 in memory of Hicksville's own Michael Magro who, in July 2004 at the age of 13, passed away from a courageous battle with leukemia.

The Michael Magro Foundation, a 503 (3) nonprofit, all volunteer organization that benefits Winthrop-University Hospital's Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center and Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids, pledging 100 percent of its profits to benefit those children diagnosed with cancer and their families. In addition, a scholarship fund was established through the Hicksville High School scholarship program to benefit a graduating student who has achieved both academic and athletic excellence.
