June 9-10 Event to Benefit AFSP -- On June 9 and 10, Donna Cabble, Dorothy Leo and Kathy Stewart will take part in the first-ever New York-based Out of the Darkness Overnight. The event, which benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), is a 20-mile walk intended to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention, education and research programs and in support of the survivors of suicide loss. The Hicksville women will serve as members of the walk's volunteer medical crew.

Long Island Assembly Republicans last week introduced a three-point plan that would offer short- and long-term relief for motorists. The plan would cut gas taxes, promote alternative fuels and vehicles and fast-track availability of ethanol fuel (E-85) at the 27 New York State Thruway service stations. Currently, E-85 fuel is nearly 60 cents less a gallon.
