$103.9M Spending Plan, Capital Reserve Funds Approved
Residents approved the Hicksville School District's 2007-2008 $103,926,697 spending plan Tuesday. Residents voted 1,560 to 1,280 in favor of Proposition #1, a 5.88 percent budget-to-budget increase over the current year's spending. With state aid estimated to be $13,915,368 or 13.9 percent, passage of the budget means the average Class 1 homeowner's tax bill will be approximately $4,011.95 - a $145.95 increase over the current year's average tax bill of $3,866.

BOE Incumbents Prevail
Election of Hicksville Board of Education trustees took place Tuesday. Incumbents Susan Powell and Alesia Sommers were both re-elected to three-year terms. Powell received 1,529 votes; Sommers received 1,220 votes; and Martin Solomon, as a write-in, received 326 votes.

20th Anniversary Runner's Edge-TOBAY Triathlon
Athletes are cordially invited to enter the 20th anniversary Runner's Edge-TOBAY Triathlon, Long Island's largest triathlon, and perhaps the most athlete-friendly multisport event in the country. Some 1,500 athletes representing 10 states and the District of Columbia participated in the 2006 edition of the triathlon and an equally big turnout is expected for 2007.
