Correction Officers Rally Again for Binding Arbitration
Sheriff Officers Association (ShOA), the union that represents Nassau County's 1,100 correction officers, states that it has not had any meaningful discussions with the Suozzi administration for more than 10 months. Additionally, the union hasn't had a contract from the county since December 2005. To help remedy this impasse, ShOA is requesting that county's legislators vote to put the binding arbitration issue on its calendar. Only with a positive vote from the 19-member legislature can the matter be brought to the New York State Legislature for needed approval.

On April 18, residents voted 166 to 93 in favor of the Hicksville Public Library's 2007-2008 budget of $4,421,500.

PAL to Hold 2007 Spring Registration
The Hicksville Unit of the Nassau County Police Activity League (PAL) will hold registration for the spring 2007 season on Monday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will take place at the PAL Office Trailer located in the west parking field of KeySpan Energy (entrance gate off Old Country Road opposite Park Avenue in Hicksville). A parent/guardian must be present at registration.

4th Annual Kevin Kolm Memorial Lacrosse Day May 5
On April 13, 2004, Marine Corporal Kevin Kolm of Hicksville was killed while attempting to rescue fellow marines in Fallujah, Iraq. For his bravery Mr. Kolm was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor in Combat.
