Sheriff Officers Association (ShOA), the union that represents Nassau County's 1,100 correction officers, states that it has not had any meaningful discussions with the Suozzi administration for more than 10 months. Additionally, the union hasn't had a contract from the county since December 2005. To help remedy this impasse, ShOA is requesting that county's legislators vote to put the binding arbitration issue on its calendar. On April 13, 2004, Marine Corporal Kevin Kolm of Hicksville was killed while attempting to rescue fellow marines in Fallujah, Iraq. For his bravery Mr. Kolm was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor in Combat. FULL STORY
