On April 17 at 9:19 a.m. the Hicksville Fire Department received a call for a person injured at the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station. According to LIRR spokesperson Susan McGowan, a Manhattan resident reported to a Hicksville ticket clerk that she had injured her leg disembarking the eastbound train to Ronkonoma at Platform B Track 3.
Hicksville Fire Department Ambulance, along with MTA police and EMS, responded to the scene and the woman initially refused treatment but at 9:57 a.m. the Hicksville Fire Department received another call and returned to the station. The woman, whose name was not released, was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where she was treated and released for a bruised right shin.
According to McGowan, the woman did not fall onto the tracks but rather her "foot slipped in the gap." The investigation is ongoing.
This latest incident occurred just a day before the state was scheduled to release its LIRR gap report.
