The Second Squad reports that two Hicksville residents have been arrested for endangering the welfare of a child made on March 24 at 10:45 p.m. in Plainview.

According to detectives, while conducting a VTL investigation, defendant Joseph Sorrentino, 34, of Hicksville was observed consuming beer while driving his 1995 Honda on Round Swamp Road at the corner of the Long Island Expressway in Plainview. Bureau of Special Operations Officers found the passenger, Deirdre Donovan, 20, in possession of heroin. The couple's two-month old son was in the backseat of the car at the time. Further investigation revealed the couple was also in possession of multiple gift cards that had been reported stolen from a pocketbook inside a Levittown Stop & Shop on March 21.

Sorrentino and Donovan are both charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of stolen property - 5th degree. Sorrentino, whose field sobriety test indiciated he was not intoxicated, is also charged with consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle while Donovan is also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance - 7th degree. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges in First District Court, Hempstead on March 25.

The infant was released to the custody of Sorrentino's sister.
