The Hicksville High School Varsity Boys Basketball team achieved AA-IV Conference Champion status with a league record of 12-1 for the 2006-2007 season. In his seventh year of coaching the high school team, Phil Essigman characterized his team as being "extremely hard-working" and "committed to a strong defensive game - ultimately, that was our impetus to success."
As the Hicksville boys basketball team moved to the AA Section VIII playoffs, they achieved an upset victory over fifth-seed Freeport with an 11-point lead. They moved on to play Baldwin in the quarterfinals where they were defeated by only four points.
As a result of their successful season, the boys' team also achieved an AA Honorable Mention state ranking from the New York State Sportswriters Association.
