Arthur A. Schreiber died on Feb. 22, 2007 of natural causes. He was a resident of Hicksville from 1957 to 2002. He retired as senior vice president and comptroller of the Hamburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn in 1988.
He was a past Grand Knight of the Joseph Barry Council where he had been an active officer since 1961 and a Fourth Degree member of Bishop Kellenberg Assembly, Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Army Military Post, Germany in 1952. He was a member of the Charles Wagner Post of the American Legion. In the past Mr. Schreiber served as a trustee of the Hicksville Gregory Museum and the Hicksville Historical Society. He was an alumnus of St. John's University and Brown University Graduate School of Savings Banking.
He was a trustee emeritus of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Hicksville and its former business administrator. He had been an annual retreatant at the Bishop Molloy Passionist Retreat House since 1954. His wife, the former Jane Ellen Muench, was the administrator of religious education for the parish until her death in 1997.
Mr. Schreiber is survived by his children, Mary Ellen Schreiber, Margaret Mary and Thomas Herrmann; and two grandchildren, Brian and Delaney; and his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery.
