I would like to thank the many voters who came out to support me. I will keep my promise to do more with less and keep the lines of communications to all residents and community groups open. You have my word I will not be a puppet fire commissioner to any special group.
My first duty as commissioner will be to sign the June 2006 board resolution written by Commissioner Harry Single and endorsed by Commissioners William McKee, Anthony Widgzinski, Charles Hearon and Robert Manson that the Hicksville Fire District will never use the power of eminent domain to condemn any properties for development within the jurisdiction of the Hicksville Fire District. It is time to move forward not backwards.
I have had the honor as a chief to move through the ranks and replace Anthony Widgzinski as chief of department in 1992. Now I will replace him as commissioner. I thank him for his guidance through the years and his dedication to the Hicksville Fire Department and Hicksville Fire District and I will continue to seek his guidance.
The Hicksville Fire District is lucky to have Commissioners Single and McKee as elected officials. Over the years, they have made it their mission to keep the residents of Hicksville informed and stop any use of condemnation while fighting the misinformation being spread by a small group of residents.
Lastly, I would like to thank my committee, the great group of volunteer firefighters in Nassau County and the officers and members of the Hicksville Fire Department. This victory is for you. Our mission will always be to protect lives and property of the residents of Hicksville. You made a statement on Tuesday that we will elect people to the board that will represent the community's best interests and that of all the residents of Hicksville.
Patrick Scanlon,
Commissioner-elect, Hicksville Fire District
