I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends, fellow residents and firefighters for your support during my two terms as fire commissioner from 1997-2006. I would especially like to thank my wife, Susan, children Katie, Michael and Breanna, and the members of Floodlight Heavy Rescue Company #8. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the community, which I have spent my entire life in. I believe that the decisions I have made and the input that I have given, along with my fellow board members has made the community of Hicksville safer and our firefighters the best equipped in the volunteer fire service today.
I would like to ask all of you that have supported me throughout the years, to please give your support to ex-Chief Patrick Scanlon. Pat comes from a family of firefighters, himself a former chief with 34 years of active service, a brother who is a former captain with the HFD and his son who is a deputy chief in Jericho. In his 34 years as a member, Pat has been a Class A firefighter (the highest classification\trained firefighter).
Having the training and expertise is only beneficial to the community if you put it to work every day, something he has always done. Presently, out of the four remaining fire commissioners, only one is an active member of the Hicksville Fire Department and this is where Pat will be beneficial as a board member. Being a lifelong resident and with his many years in the fire service, Pat knows what the needs of the firefighters and the community are. He will be open-minded, listen to your concerns and make a sound and honest decision.
Aside from his commitment to the fire service, Pat has spent numerous hours helping to raise money for various associations throughout the community. He has helped raise money for the Hicksville Baseball Association, Hicksville Football Association and Hicksville Youth Council to name a few.
Thank you again, and have a safe and happy holiday and a healthy new year.
Anthony Wigdzinski
Commissioner,
Hicksville Fire District
