As Commissioner of the Hicksville Baseball Association I have had the privilege of working with an outstanding board of directors who give of themselves for 12 months a year to make sure our 900 children have the best baseball and softball programs available. I know what it takes to run such a league and one thing that is extremely important is money.
Our elected officials come through for us every year but once in awhile and not too often, you get an organization and a volunteer who want to do something good to help our children. Last year we had such an organization and a person who did just that and through the intense efforts of one individual, we were handed a check for $2,500. We were able to do so much with this money and so many young ballplayers benefited from this wonderful gesture.
The organization was the Hicksville Fire Department and the man was ex-Chief Pat Scanlon. Along with his committee they ran their annual golf outing and the proceeds were to be given to our league to help us. Mr. Scanlon worked diligently on this project and we cannot begin to thank him enough. He truly is a person who commits to a project, gives it 100 percent effort and follows through with tremendous results.
Now he is running for the position of fire commissioner in Hicksville and I cannot think of a better person for the job. I know he will give everything he has to give for this community. He has already proven that by his many years as a volunteer firefighter, officer and chief of the department. I ask anybody who knows me and knows of the commitment that I have for our children to please come out and vote this man into a position where he can do more good for all of us, as our next fire commissioner.
