The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has signed on as a corporate sponsor of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL), according to Addie Mattei-Iaia, president of the league. LIPA joins such prominent companies as Adidas, Modells, Waldbaum's and Eurosport in supporting the LIJSL's mission of fostering the growth and development of children through soccer, while emphasizing fun, respect and team-building.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome LIPA to our family of corporate sponsors," stated Mattei-Iaia. "Support from LIPA and other corporations ensure that the league is well positioned for continued growth and success in the years to come."

The LIJSL is a non-profit, educational organization operated by volunteers and serves as an umbrella organization, providing a coaching academy, clinics, tournaments, special competitions, scholarships and special programs for players of all abilities.

One of the largest youth soccer leagues in the United States, the LIJSL has over 98 member clubs representing approximately 70,000 players on Long Island and in Queens.

"LIPA is pleased to help sponsor the Long Island Junior Soccer League's excellent youth sports programs and activities," said LIPA Chairman Richard M. Kessel. "We hope our involvement will help alert the parents, relatives and friends of the 70,000 young people involved with the League's well-organized programs that LIPA has a wide range of services and incentives to help them become more energy efficient, which in turn will help lower their bills and protect the environment."

The LIJSL possesses a strong infrastructure and well-coordinated communications channels necessary to promote a corporate message to an enthusiastic audience. If interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact the league office at 756-9696 or visit www.lijsoccer.com.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, serves over 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island electric generating assets. For more information on its energy saving programs and other services, go to www.lipower.org or call LIPA's Energy Infoline at 1-800-692-2626.
