Anthony Sellitto, 77, of Hicksville passed away Sunday, Oct. 8 after being struck by a car while crossing Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage.
According to police, Mr. Sellitto was crossing Hempstead Turnpike from the north side to the south side at the intersection of Emerson Avenue at the same time Joseph Oliveri of Bayshore, operating a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The vehicle struck Mr. Sellitto, causing massive head and torso injuries. Mr. Sellitto was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Mr. Sellitto was a 40-year member of the Hicksville Fire Department and active member of Floodlight Heavy Rescue Company #8. He was often seen socializing at Mike's Pizza and News & Nosh. He often filled in for a friend and local businessman and was a familiar face around Hicksville.
Mr. Sellitto was cremated and a funeral Mass took place Oct. 13 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church followed by interment at Holy Rood Cemetery.
