Community Mourns Anthony Sellitto, Longtime Hicksville Firefighter, Resident
Anthony Sellitto, 77, of Hicksville passed away Sunday, Oct. 8 after being struck by a car while crossing Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage.

Dryer Fire at West Village Green Laundromat
On Sunday, Oct. 15, at approximately 6:45 p.m. the Hicksville Fire Department responded to call for a fire at the Hicksville Laundromat in the West Village Green Shopping Center. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with a heavy smoke condition in the Laundromat with a fire in a clothes dryer. Several persons using the facility when the fire occurred attempted to extinguish the flames and removed the burning clothes from the dryer, dragging them outside in a basket prior to the fire department's arrival. One of the good Samaritans suffered minor burns to his hands and received medical attention at the scene. Smoke had traveled throughout the strip mall, but the damage was limited to the Laundromat. Operations were wrapped up in approximately one hour under the command of Chief Robert Chiz and Assistant Chiefs Robert Lang, Edward Korona and Chris Moskos.

LIPA Gives Power to Local Youth Soccer
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has signed on as a corporate sponsor of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL), according to Addie Mattei-Iaia, president of the league. LIPA joins such prominent companies as Adidas, Modells, Waldbaum's and Eurosport in supporting the LIJSL's mission of fostering the growth and development of children through soccer, while emphasizing fun, respect and team-building.
