The Broadway Mall is celebrating 50 years of shopping in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and will be holding a special "Runway Reaches Out" event Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Children will be able to participate in activities to win prizes, and shoppers will be able to buy raffles as well as meet and greet the reality television stars from BRAVO's hit television show Project Runway.
This event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Broadway Mall. The mall will be giving away mini tote bags filled with goodies to the first 500 people to donate to the American Cancer Society.
Shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase a limited edition t-shirt designed by 2005 Project Runway finalist Kara Janx. In addition, there will be a meet and greet with Project Runway finalists from this season and last, including Kara Janx and Emmett McCarthy. Contestants will be signing autographs, and interacting with their fans.
The decision to partner with Project Runway comes from the massive success that the show has seen in recent seasons. Project Runway is a hit reality television series on the Bravo network that focuses on fashion design. Its contestants compete with each other to create the best clothes and are usually restricted in their time, materials, and theme. Their designs are judged and one or more designers are eliminated each week. The show's winner receives prizes of cash and various opportunities to jump-start a career in the world of fashion.
Janx, designer of the limited edition Project Runway T-shirt is a South African fashion designer, who was a top four finalist in Season 2 of Project Runway, which aired from December 2005 to March 2006. She launched her first collection in 2002, and information on her clothing can be found on www.karajanx.com.
This is not the first time Broadway Mall has used reality stars to raise money for American Cancer Society. They hosted a wildly successful Reality Date Auction as part of their "Gifts of the Season" holiday event in 2005, where they auctioned off dates with contestants from The Real World, Survivor and The Biggest Loser. They are expecting to exceed their $8,000 target for the American Cancer Society this Oct. 21.
