The Beaumans are a very unique family residing in Hicksville who are always fighting. But it's not what you think. The Beauman clan, from Ethan, the youngest at 8, to Zack, the oldest who is 19, are all Judo fighters. They fight as often as they can. Even dad gets into the fray along with his six children - Ethan, Linda-Lee, Luke, Christine, Danielle and Zack - at the Syosset PAL Judo Club, which meets at Southwoods Middle School.

During July, most of the family trekked to Boca Raton, FL to compete in the United States Judo Association Junior Nationals where the elite and best judo juniors in the country come to test and perfect their skills. It was there that 17-year-old Danielle triumphed in a very competitive division to take the bronze medal in her age and weight bracket.

Instructor Dave Passoff said it is not unusual to have brothers or a brother/sister combination taking lessons, but an entire family at one time is pretty special. The children support one another and help each other learn and practice complicated moves associated with competitive Judo.

The Syosset PAL Judo club resumes its season in September and meets on Friday nights from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Call Dave Passoff at 718-631-0144 for information.
