  • News: Abridged Version of Grandfather's Book Recognized by AASLH

    The Diaries of John Hunton - Made to Last, Written to Last - Sagas of the Western Frontier, Hicksville resident Mike Griske's abridged version of a six-volume set of books written by his grandfather, Wyoming historian Pat Flannery, was recently selected as a national finalist in the 2006 Awards Program sponsored by the American Association for State and Local History. The AASLH conducts this program annually to "establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States." The late Mr. Flannery was a historian from 1953 when he retired from politics until he passed away in 1964 at the age of 70. FULL STORY

  • News: Long Island Water Suppliers Help Electric Grid

    During the extended heat wave, with high demands for electricity threatening the integrity of the electric grid, 12 large water suppliers on Long Island - including Hicksville - stepped up to the plate to help stabilize the grid by reducing electric usage and running generators as part of the Operation Save New York demand response program, administered by Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc.   • Sports: Love for Judo Is All in the Family

    The Beaumans are a very unique family residing in Hicksville who are always fighting. But it's not what you think. The Beauman clan, from Ethan, the youngest at 8, to Zack, the oldest who is 19, are all Judo fighters. They fight as often as they can. Even dad gets into the fray along with his six children - Ethan, Linda-Lee, Luke, Christine, Danielle and Zack - at the Syosset PAL Judo Club, which meets at Southwoods Middle School. FULL STORY
