The New York State Department of Health reported on the first isolation of West Nile Virus (WNV) from a mosquito pool July 19 in Hicksville. The virus was identified in a sample of Culex pipiens mosquitos, a species which primarily bites birds. To date, no humans, horses or birds have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Nassau County; there are no plans to spray for adult mosquitoes at this time. FULL STORY
