On Thursday, June 29, the water in my shower began to run brown. I called the Hicksville Water District to ask about the cause [and was told] "the water was shut off because they're changing the fire hydrants on 9th Street." I live two streets away. This procedure was obviously planned in advance. Why wasn't notice given to nearby residents to curb their water usage during certain hours on this day? A flier stuck in doors would have prevented ruined clothes in the washing machine and brown water in the shower.
