How to improve the efficiency and accountability of Nassau's 200 special tax districts, with an emphasis on saving taxpayer dollars, was the topic of discussion and debate at the countywide Conference on Nassau County Special Districts. The conference was held June 8 at Hofstra University's Center for Suburban Studies, hosted by Richard Guardino, executive dean of the center.

To keep the process transparent for county residents and Nassau legislators, three hearings were held on the proposed HUB this month, more specifically, chosen bidder Lighthouse Development Group, LLC's vision to revamp the 77-acre Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum site into a first class sports and entertainment facility.

Free Golf Lessons for Middle and High School Students
Free golf lessons are being offered to all middle and high school boys and girls. Instructors from First Tee of Metropolitan New York will hold six weekly sessions, beginning in mid-July, at Cantiague Park. Sessions are each 90 minutes and will take place in the afternoon. Charity Softball Game July 8
A charity softball game will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8 between the New York State Assembly Republican Long Island members and News 12 Long Island at John J. Walker Memorial Park, which is located on Andrews Road in Hicksville. Proceeds will benefit the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect.
