Nearly 15 years ago my wife and I moved out east to buy a home and raise a family. We wanted to be part of suburban life and called Hicksville our new hometown.
As of late, Hicksville has become a major hub and focal point within Nassau County. Many new homeowners are moving into charming homes with tree-lined streets enjoying the beauty of their new hometown. Sadly, a few new homeowners are tainting their neighborhood by infiltrating it with illegal tenants. It is very discouraging to have a family move onto your block and see eight to 10 adults outside the family move in and out of the same house. You come to the conclusion that this person has no respect for their neighbors or the safety of their neighbor's children. Now every time you see a house for sale the first thought that goes through your mind is "how many people are going to be living in that house?"
This situation is growing as each day passes. Our elected officials must acknowledge and address this issue with the highest priority. The quality of life that we treasure is crumbling beneath us. If you see this occurring in your neighborhood notify the appropriate town agency. Let the town hold these violators accountable for their actions. Turning your head is not going to make this problem go away. Remember, your silence is their strength! For the sake of your family's safety and your neighborhood, exercise your "write to fight."
