News: Chamber Happenings: The Befores and Afters of East Marie Street
The view looking at the south side of East Marie Street across from the Hicksville Fire Department's Station #1 back in February 1998 used to be of the old Hicksville movie house with the antique clock right next to the marquee, which was damaged and dangling as a result of a truck accident. At the time, the movie house showed Indian films. The storefront facades on the south side of the street were in disrepair and the second story had no heat or bathrooms. No wonder there was space rented upstairs. Throughout all the years of patchwork, none of the squares of concrete matched. FULL STORY

News: Local Students Recognized at Young Artists at the Heckscher Reception
On April 2, The Heckscher Museum of Art's Long Island's Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher celebrated its 10th anniversary. This annual arts-in-education program, which began in 1996 with 15 participating schools, has since matured into an eagerly anticipated annual event with approximately 49 Long Island school districts from Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as students in the Heckscher-USDAN Student Art Institute, participating. Sports: Amputee Runners Break Records at ASPIRE Run
Two records fell at the ASPIRE 10 kilometer road race in Plainview April 1. Competing against able-bodied runners, nine amputee athletes sponsored by A Step Ahead Prosthetics & Orthotics of Hicksville, participated in the race, which raises money for ASPIRE, a non-profit organization that provides financial support and education to children with limb loss.
