Erick Lehmann, 14, of Hicksville was struck by a car while trying to cross Newbridge Road last Friday.

Homicide Squad detectives report a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred in Hicksville on Friday, Jan. 27 at 9:55 a.m.

According to detectives, 28-year-old Selenay Aytac of Hicksville was traveling northbound in the right lane of Newbridge Road approximately 25 feet north of Old Country Road when he allegedly struck 14-year-old Erick Lehmann of Hicksville who was attempting to cross westbound Newbridge Road on his skateboard.

Erick, a freshman at Hicksville High School, suffered serious head trauma as a result of his head hitting the windshield of the car. He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center by Hicksville Fire Department Ambulance #9322 where, as of press time, he is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in critical but stable condition.

Aytac's 1987 Mercedes-Benz was impounded for brake and safety checks. No summonses were issued and no charges were filed. Newbridge Road at Old Country Road was closed for over two hours for police investigations.
